Brantley's 1st Career American League Player of the Week Honor

let me take a minute to get my scream outta the way... AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! lol

Michael Brantley has been named the American League Player of the Week for June 9-15, 2014! this is Michael's first career AL POTW honor. he's also the first AL POTW for the Tribe this season. the last Indian to receive this honor was Jason Kipnis on July 1, 2013.

Michael led all major leaguers in batting average (.538), runs scored (9), and on base percentage (.625). he led all American League players in hits (14), total bases (23), and times on base (20). and mind you, he did all this on the road.

Michael had a hit in 7 of the 7 games he played from June 9-15 and reached base safely in 7 games. he currently has a 7-game hitting streak and 14-game reached base streak. he also had 6 multi-hit games during this time.

in the past week, Michael bat. 588 (10-for-17) against right-handed pitchers and .444 (4-for-9) against left-handed pitchers. he bat .333 (2-for-6) with runners in scoring position, with 1 single, 1 double, 1 RBI, and 2 walks. he also hit .667 (2-for-3) with 0 outs and runners in scoring position and .429 (6-for-14) with 2 outs in an inning.

on June 9, Michael hit his 10th home run of the season, tying his career high from last year. then on June 15, Michael hit his career high 11th home run. i have a blog about that here.

additionally, Michael had 2 nice outfield assists, both at Fenway Park. my boy knows how to work that left field Green Monster wall lol

Michael played in 7 (of 7) games, 6 complete, from June 9-15. he started and played left in 7 games, completing 6 of those games. he left 1 game early after 7 innings because it was a blowout and Michael had done more than enough.

everyone knows i'm well aware of all the stats Michael's been racking up lately, but i never once thought about him being named the AL Player of the Week. this season just seems to be getting better and better by the day for my boy. congratulations, Michael!
